Our Current Projects
CSC Asbl in the DRC
Wood U Waste is working in partnership with the charity CSC-Asbl working in the South Uvira district of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Despite very difficult circumstances in this war affected region the charity is doing fantastic work, particularly working with women and children living in the displaced persons camp nearby.
WUW is delighted to be working with them on a number of environment enhancing projects.
The South Kivu Women Farmers Support Project (PAFA) is training women in basic sustainable and traditional farming methods to make compost, control pests, manage soil quality and reduce erosion, reduce food insecurity and combat climate change.
Seed the Future has planted 120 fruit trees (mango, avacado and papaya) in Uvira to help address climate change, soil erosion and create a valuable food source for the community. WUW is monitoring the success of this project.
A grant from WUW has enabled CSC-Asbl to install solar panels its new office building to provide renewable electricity in an area where supplies are often disrupted.
The Makhad Trust working with the Bedouin in the Sinai
The Makhad Trust builds wells to maintain the gardens and traditional lifestyles of the Bedouin living in the Sinai mountains. The area suffers terrible droughts which makes life intolerable.
Since 2021 WUW has given an annual grant to the Makhad Trust to create a fund called the ERIK Fund to finance unexpected repairs necessary to keep water supplies flowing.

Surplus Food Project
WUW is currently working with charities in the south East London area who share its values of recycling, preventing food waste and promoting a more environmentally friendly way of life.
The charity is currently forging valuable community links to explore where its funding can be the most useful.
Project ideas using surplus food include ‘community cook ups’ where cooks get together creating pop up meals out of waste food.

We have also created a mobile community food service called Chic Pea to provide delicious community meals using the surplus food we have collected.
